I made this self-portrait for my Drawing I class. Charcoal and pastel on paper, 3’x3′. It was while I was working on this piece that my professor said something profound to me. It was something that I already knew but never quite heard in words. He said that most people tend to think of erasers and just something that you get rid of mistakes with, but if you properly utilize them they can be used to draw as well. I had already done that in my work before but I wasn’t ever conscious of it until I heard him say that. I am thankful to have had that experience, I have learned a lot from it. This is the most fun that I have ever had working on a drawing and I think that if I ever find myself with the space to do it, I will definitely be making more of these in the future.
